The  Camillo Story

The original "Camillo Bros"

This is the visiting card used by Bartie and Anthony Camillo in 1938, discovered by Gilbert V. Garcia, whom we thank for his contribution. Here is his story:

"I am glad you liked it. Here is the story of how I found this old business card: 20 years ago I had an office in an older building that used to be the construction offices for the A.S. Vinnell Co. from about 1940's-1980's. Allen Vinnell built many of the roads here in Los Angeles, as well as many of the large dam projects as well as the Dodger's Baseball Stadium here in Los Angeles.

While attempting to add a new phone line, I had to try and trace the original phone lines, and ended up in the attic of the building. In a sealed off room, I found about a dozen boxes of old records dating from about 1935-1944. There were stacks of old letters, plans, job reports, etc.

The Camillo Brothers business card was attached to a statement and check in the amount of $7,574.58 in 1938 for subcontracting work on a dam project known as the All American Canal. The Camillo Brothers hauled 56,108 cubic yards of fill for the dam at 15 cents per yard.

Although I am not an old truck expert, I believe that the trucks depicted on the business cards are 1927-1928 vintage Fageol's.

That's all for now....in spite of the distance seperating this other Camillo operation, is it not a weird coincidence?

Gilbert V. Garcia"
